Revitalising India’s power capacity

“Rather than irrigation being a large abler for solar, it should go like irrigation has a huge scope with solar as its complementary”

Krishnendu Mukherjee, COO, Sova Solar Limited believes that providing smoke electricity will give the large young population of India scope to grow. Setting a paradigm shift, the financial health of the sector is being improved, along with that the very nature of our power sources are being changed.

Electricity as a major index
As per energy statistics, India’s energy consumption has increased since 2000. It is expected the growth will be more than doubled by 2040. Thus, I believe that providing smoke electricity will give the large young population of India scope to grow.

UDAY (Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana)
The policy decision of the government is the key driving force for this industry. The greatest had been the policy push to increase the demand five folds to 100 GW. Also, policies to improve the financial health of the DISCOMs have been a great game-changer. UDAY programme may be the game-changer of the country as it has aimed of revitalising the buying power capacity of the electricity supply chain.

Sova Solar’s contribution
Sova Solar is one of the largest and pioneering companies in India’s solar space. As such, Sova Solar has been in the forefront of this growth and we are gearing up to contribute more in the future. We are developing the Mono Park using the rooftop photovoltaic power station in a major scale. Along with that, we are trying to develop the solar mini inverter that can replace the junction box in the solar panel and can reduce the cost of power generation.

Irrigation has a huge scope with solar
In June 2018, the country’s solar electrification capacity reached 23 GW, which is eight times more than that recorded in 2014. Agriculture is one of the lifelines of Indian economy. As such, this sector has to be made more competitive and effective if we want our country to be strong. Rather than irrigation being a large abler for solar, it should go like irrigation has a huge scope with solar as its complementary.

Solar pumps
Because of irregular rainfall in some of the states in India, the solar irrigation has become popular as it one-time investment procedure. The solar pumps are environment-friendly, which reduces the 7.5 per cent of total diesel consumption in agricultural field. There are only 60-70 days which prevents the solar water pumps from working. So, the coming future will have solar power irrigation as the most important part of Indian agriculture.

2022 is in sight
To achieve the target of post generation, the tenders have to be streamlined so that the cyclic nature can be flattened out. The government’s involvement in tendering and implementing solar power generation in various places may be one of the important phases for achieving the target. In the current situation, 18 GW should be the target annually for achieving the 100 GW goals in 2022. For achieving the solar target, government should make the people aware of the significance of solar power generation.
