“The rise in renewable energy capacity can upsurge the employment opportunities which will further boost small and medium scale businesses”

Sachin Shigwan, Managing Director, Green India Initiative Pvt. Ltd, firmly believes India’s potential to become the leading global driver of growth in energy consumption for the next 20 years.

Energy: The largest contributor of India’s economy
Energy is a crucial component for India’s economic development. As both, agricultural and industrial activities have increased, the demand for energy has similarly increased in the last decade. In India, the provision of a greater access to energy has been suggested by the experts, which will help us to grow our economy and improve the lives of the underprivileged population. As a result, progress is being done to provide energy to as much percentage of the population as possible by the Government of India. India will progress through appropriate energy infrastructure with the help of renewable energies and contribute largely to the economic development of India.

Can India be leading the global drive?
Energy consumption in India has grown at a compound annual growth rate of about six per cent during the last decade in all regions and sectors. India’s potential clearly positions us as the leading global driver of growth in energy consumption for the next 20 years; possibly surpassing China in the process. The future of India and its economic growth plans are critically linked to the fortunes of the energy sector and our ability to leverage energy sources to fuel our ambitions.

225 GW instead of 175 GW: No more dependency on fossil fuel
I am excited by rampant bids in the renewable energy sector. The Central Government is now confident of achieving renewable energy power capacity of 225 GW by March 2022, breaching the set target of 175 GW, well ahead of the deadline. This will be a real game-changer of the renewable energy industry, which drastically reduces the dependency on fossil fuel and leads to harness clean and green energy. The rise in renewable energy capacity can upsurge the employment opportunities, which will further boost small and medium scale businesses.

Green India Initiative’s contribution
Green India Initiative Private Limited (GIIPL), deals in innovative renewable energy products and sustainable project execution. GIIPL is having expertise in supply, installation, and commissioning of solar photovoltaic rooftop while also supporting CSR projects to develop villages with solar energy infrastructure. We are working with recognised corporate and international NGOs to execute ambitious and sustainable renewable energy projects in India.

Conventional vs solar-powered pump systems
A switch from conventional irrigation-pump systems to solar-powered ones in India would save enormous sum of money and generate income for farmers, according to a report by US-based Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA). As GIIPL work with villagers for innovative and sustainable projects, we strongly believe that there is a vast potential in solar-powered irrigation.

2022 is fast approaching
India has set a target to generate 100 GW solar energy by 2022. The target for rooftop solar power capacity is 40,000 MW. India has installed just about 2,538 MW up to March 2018, which means only six per cent of solar rooftop capacity target met. The government should give more subsidy to rooftop photovoltaic projects or provide tax concession for solar energy infrastructure installation to attract the interest of India population towards solar energy to achieve these targets.
