Green India initiative Pvt. Ltd. for Rotary Club of Mumbai Malabar Hill has transformed the Shirgaon crematorium to a green crematorium in May 2019. When people normally visit any crematorium, they see no/less facilities available, especially, at rural village. At night, people have no/less visibility of the site which makes it risky to reach safely at the site. Due to no nearby water supply, again the walk for water supply is a tougher task for people.
Green Crematorium concept was donated by Rotary Club of Mumbai Malabar Hill along with Malabar Hill Rotary Foundation and implemented and installed by Green India Initiative Pvt. Ltd. for village Shirgaon in Palghar, Maharashtra making it comfortable for people to execute all the cremation activities at the crematorium. Stand alone solar street lights and solar water pump system have been installed at the crematorium making it a green crematorium energised by solar PV energy technology.Solar street lights project illuminates the site throughout the night, enhancing visibility for people visiting the crematorium. Solar water pump system pulls the water from nearby water source through solar PV energy, stores it in the tank situated at a height of 15ft and is supplied to the visitors. Green and clean energy ensures sustainable long term productivity of the project and using the conventional source of energy, the Sun. None of the cost has to be barred by the villagers, only cleaning and cost less maintenance of the system.
