This article gives us a brief preview of Delta’s commitment to create innovative, clean and energy-saving solutions to offer better energy-conversion efficiency in its product profile.
Delta’s journey began almost 50 years ago when Taiwan’s economy witnessed rapid growth, and the increased power consumption led to frequent blackouts. As a company formed in these times, Delta has always believed that improving energy efficiency and conservation can help address the issue of insufficient power in a relatively faster and more efficient way than simply building new power plants.
Back then, linear power supplies offered an efficiency way below 50 percent. Riding on the heels of this realisation, Delta decided to invest in developing more energy efficient switching power supply technology. Thus, we began our new business journey with the mission “To provide innovative, clean, and energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow.” Through strong R&D capabilities, Delta fostered its core competence in high-efficiency power electronics to relentlessly increase the energy conversion efficiency of its products, some of which have achieved industry-leading levels. For example, Delta’s server power supplies were the world’s first to achieve 80 PLUS TITANIUM certification with an efficiency of over 96 percent, while our telecom rectifiers and solar PV inverters boast up to 98 percent and 99.2 percent efficiency, respectively. Moreover, between 2010 and 2020, Delta’s high-efficiency products are estimated to have saved customers 33.5 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, an equivalent to reducing 17.80 million metric tonnes of CO2 emissions.
The manufacturing industry in recent years has undergone many disruptive changes due to the rapid advancement of science and technology. These advancements, in particular, have had a tremendous impact on traditional manufacturing approaches and business concepts. In line with these changing times, Delta also began offering smart manufacturing solutions capable of upgrading traditional production lines into truly smart production lines offering higher productivity and energy efficiency. In 2021, on the occasion of Delta’s 50th anniversary, the company reached global revenues of USD11.275 billion. To commemorate our 50 years of success and contribution to sustainable development, we adopted the vision “Influencing 50, Embracing 50”. Building on the solid foundation developed over 50 years, we will continue to innovate with our products and services and join hands with our partners in all sectors to stride towards the next 50 years together.
Align brand value with brand positioning for sustainable development
We deeply believe in bringing together leading technology and customer cooperation to continuously create highly efficient and reliable power electronics products, industrial automation, energy management systems, and consumer products.
In 2021, we announced our membership in the RE100, a global renewable electricity initiative that entails the commitment to operate 100 per cent on renewable electricity by 2030. Delta has gone even further and has also committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. Delta is also a corporate leader in electric transport by joining EV100, alongside the world’s leading companies.
Indian footprint
Delta operates in three business categories: Power Electronics, Automation, and Infrastructure. It has a legacy of operating in India with market leadership in telecom power solutions, renewable energy solutions, and display solutions. It is also a leading provider of Industrial Automation Solutions, UPS & Datacenter Solutions, EV Charging Solutions, Rail Transportation Solutions, Energy Storage Solutions, DC Fans & Blowers, and Components. Delta has a strong presence across India with fourteen regional offices and four manufacturing facilities in Rudrapur, Gurgaon, Hosur, and Krishnagiri. Delta also has two R&D centres in Gurgaon and Bengaluru. The company also has more than 200 channel partners nationwide. Our offices in India are rated gold and platinum in the LEED rating system, the world’s most widely used green building rating system. LEED-certified buildings save money, improve efficiency, lower carbon emissions, and create healthier places for people. They are critical to addressing climate change, enhancing resilience, and supporting more equitable communities.
Our Mumbai office and our plants in Rudrapur and Gurgaon, on average, are 40% more energy efficient when compared to similar commercial buildings in India. Our facilities feature natural lighting, energy-efficient HVAC systems, solar photovoltaic systems, and LED streetlights to maximise energy efficiency. Even in wastewater management and water efficiency, our facilities are some of the finest in the nation.
Corporate Social Responsibility in India
The COVID-19 pandemic has been a very challenging period for India. An important lesson this pandemic has taught us is that all stakeholders need to come together to fight the inequities in our society to overcome this pandemic. As part of our commitment to the nation, Delta’s CSR interventions during these times are aimed at aiding the most vulnerable sections and communities.
Through our donation of oxygen concentrators to authorities in Tamil Nadu, we at Delta Electronics India have supported the nation’s fight against COVID-19. Furthermore, Delta also donated five ICU beds to the Uttarakhand government as our small contribution to facilitate the treatment of patients in the state.
The Road Ahead
India is set to experience the largest increase in energy demand of any country worldwide over the next 20 years as its economy develops and brings greater prosperity to its citizens. More than any other major economy, India’s energy future depends on buildings and factories that are yet to be built and vehicles and appliances that are yet to be bought. This represents a huge opening for policies to steer India onto a more secure and sustainable course. We, at Delta, are committed to contributing to India’s journey to a sustainable and greener tomorrow.
