IoT-enabled LED lights are smart and sustainable
.

It needs an hour to incorporate energy-efficient, durable, and user-friendly smart lighting solutions. IoT-based lighting solutions have taken centre stage in the home automation sector. Rajesh Uttamchandani, Director, Syska Group, opines about led lights being environmentally responsible and providing ease of use, as being driven by AI software that reduces the need for physical touch.

How do you view the demand for intelligent and efficient lighting in the commercial and residential segments?
The demand for cutting-edge technologies to help save energy resources has grown significantly due to the fast population growth. Due to the pandemic, more people are investing in modernising their homes with cutting-edge technology. It is now more important than ever to incorporate energy-efficient, durable, and user-friendly smart lighting solutions. IoT-based lighting  solutions have become more popular as a result of the growth in the home automation sector. Since a significant portion of the workforce has commenced working from the office, contactless smart technology has also become critical in commercial settings. Furthermore, government programmes like “Digital India” and “Smart City Mission” continue spreading awareness about adopting smart, energy-efficient, and sustainable LED lighting  solutions. Growing consumer demand for lights with wireless and sensor technology has further fueled the market’s expansion.

How do you view India’s challenges and opportunities for smart and energy-efficient lighting?
Today, with cities consuming high power and resources, there is a need for advanced technology to aid in conserving energy resources. Small but impactful actions like adopting environmentally friendly products like LED bulbs that reduce pollution and IoT-enabled smart home LED lights that provide leisure with an emphasis on sustainability can make a big difference. At Syska, we have been focusing on creating awareness around switching to environmentally friendly and energy-saving goods and solutions. We are witnessing enormous demand for smart lighting products not just from metro cities  but also from tier 2 and 3 cities due to the availability of affordable data connectivity services, making products widely accessible. Voice command is one of the most innovative advancements in AI/IoT. A new era of intelligent devices that can be operated simply with voice commands from any location with internet connectivity is rapidly increasing.

How are IT, IIoT and automation enabling the industry to meet the demand for energy-efficient lighting for smart cities?
Consumer demands and tastes for lighting have drastically changed. Interest in IoT-based smart gadgets that offer touch-free experience has increased in response to the pandemic. On the other hand, the lighting industry is expanding to provide sustainable, reliable, and contactless solutions. This pandemic has opened up a market for contactless lighting solutions because it encourages hygiene and aids people in overcoming their fear of touch. In addition to being environmentally responsible and providing ease of use, smart lighting with sensors and AI-driven software protects consumers by eliminating the need for physical access, enabling users to manage the product at any time and from any location.

With its cutting-edge IoT/AI technology, Syska has been a pioneer in the next-generation lighting industry as the demand for smart products has grown significantly over time. Voice command is one of the most innovative inventions in the field of AI/ IoT.

How is the industry responding to the growing demand for solar lighting?
The dependence on resources is driving the globe more into an energy crisis. Concerns about climate change also underscore the urgent need to increase the use of renewable energy sources and switch to more environmentally friendly lighting options. A tectonic transition from conventional to non-conventional energy sources has unfolded in response to the issues of energy poverty and the impact on the environment of traditional energy sources. India has also turned to renewable energy sources to suit its energy needs. Climate, energy, and financial concerns are being addressed by electrifying our infrastructure using solar-powered street lights. The global market for solar lighting is growing rapidly. Citizens in Tier 2 and Tier 3 regions with limited access to power have seen a significant improvement in their quality of life owing to solar lanterns and torches. In particular, replacing kerosene lighting with solar lights has gained increased attention. The adoption of solar streetlights has further complemented this to foster a sense of security among the locals.
