The solar business is undergoing major transformations. We are currently witnessing breakthroughs in the floating solar industry, particularly in panel and cell technologies. “Mono-PERC, bifacial, and crystalline technologies are becoming more popular in solar PV for panel construction and efficiency”, says Amitesh Sharma, Director, of Greenfinity Powertech India.
What do you think are the major drivers for this industry?
I believe that the rising cost of power is a major factor encouraging customers toward solar technology. Because solar and other renewable energy sources are limitless, the transition toward solar and being self-sufficient in terms of electricity generation is anticipated to accelerate in the future years.
What are the challenges in terms of cost and obtaining raw materials?
Obtaining raw materials remains an issue in India, as most solar products are still imported. This is mostly owing to the significant cost of procuring materials locally or the lack of relevant technologies in India. This increases reliance on solar imports of raw materials such as solar ingots and polysilicon for solar panels.
On the positive side, the government is doing all necessary to boost domestic production of solar panels and solar cells. Under “Make in India, for India”, I believe India is taking every possible step to increase the indigenous manufacture of solar panels and solar cells. Solar ingots, wafers, and polysilicon will soon be manufactured in India for India and the rest of the world.
What kind of maintenance practices are followed to add efficiency in solar panels?
We need adequate cleaning solutions for maintenance in order to create more power and get the most out of solar energy. Greenfinity, on the other hand, focuses on comprehensive and efficient aftersales services, including O&M for already installed parts in solar power plants. We keep these solar power plants in good working order by using adequate cleaning systems and doing regular preventative maintenance. We also monitor the panel’s performance through robotic cleaning, which helps to scale the plant’s performance.
How are advanced technologies helping you monitor and maintain efficiency?
We use high-efficiency solar cells in our products, which are imported because Indian manufacturing companies are currently serving as assembly units for this high efficiency, energy-efficient solar cells. These high-efficiency solar cells enable us to improve the efficiency of solar panels. In addition, we can generate more power from smaller panels. To be more specific, the selection of suitable raw materials and panel-building materials determines the quantity of power output provided by a solar panel. The same results can be obtained even with a smaller panel.
Can you talk about your in-house R&D facility for Solar PV plants?
Our primary focus is solar panel installation. However, we are also concentrating on energy saving and smart grid solutions. Our focus on smart grid solutions is aimed at powering the entire community with renewable energy sources. It will also include a lithium-ion battery bank with a warranty of more than ten years. These batteries can be used to save energy that can be used later. In addition, we are focused on home automation by providing solar- powered items.
With the aforementioned focus, we are developing smart grid technologies that can be installed in integrated solar panels, solar-powered projects, and residential installation projects.
