Shapoorji Pallonji Oil & Gas Pvt Ltd (SP O&G), India’s leading FPSO specialist, has achieved a significant milestone with the “hook-up” of its FPSO Armada Sterling V at the KG 98/2 block, offshore Kakinada.
The FPSO Armada Sterling V arrived at Cluster 2 of ONGC’s KG 98/2 block on India’s east coast on December 15, 2022, after departing from Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine shipyard.
On December 28, 2022, India’s largest FPSO was safely connected. She is now ready to receive and process hydrocarbons from the field. Despite the challenges of inclement weather, hook-up was completed in one of the shortest lead times.
The FPSO can process approximately 60,000 bpd of liquid and 3 MMSCMD of gas. SP O&G’s 70:30 joint venture with Malaysia’s Bumi Armada group owns her. This is Shapoorji Pallonji’s fourth FPSO and the company’s third in Indian waters.
With the successful completion of this hook-up activity, SP O&G has reached a critical milestone and is now ready to begin FPSO commissioning. ONGC is speeding up its sub-sea activities and is expected to deliver hydrocarbons soon, allowing the FPSO to achieve “first oil” and begin production for the country.
The FPSO’s commissioning readiness has come at a critical time for the country, as oil and gas prices have skyrocketed. The early commissioning of the FPSO will help India reduce its energy bill at a time when it is most needed. The project has the potential to save India $4.5 billion in annual imports and will be a critical step toward ensuring India’s energy security.
