The objective of the scheme is to significantly reduce the Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses at a pan-India level.
L&T Construction, a subsidiary of Indian multinational conglomerate Larsen & Toubro, has secured significant orders for its Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) Business in India and overseas. The company has bagged EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) orders to develop distribution infrastructure in two DISCOM circles of western Rajasthan under the Reforms-based Results-linked Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
The RDSS is an initiative by distribution utilities in India to modernize and improve the operational efficiency and financial sustainability of the power distribution sector. The objective of the scheme is to significantly reduce the Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses at a pan-India level. To achieve this goal, discoms undertake several distribution infrastructure improvements, including segregating feeders, reconductoring, cabling, augmenting line networks and elements, geo-tagging of assets, and more.
In addition to the domestic orders, L&T Construction has also won a power supply system order for the second phase of Chennai Metro, which involves the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of Receiving Substations (RSS), Auxiliary Substations (ASS), and SCADA system for the northern sections of Corridors 3 & 5. The scope of the project includes 110kV Gas Insulated Receiving Substations that receive incoming supply from the grid and feed power supply to the traction and station requirements. 33kV Auxiliary Substations interconnected through a 33kV cable system will feed the auxiliary loads of metro stations such as lighting, ventilation, and lifts, among others. Control & Protection systems are also included in the scope.Furthermore, the PT&D Business of L&T Construction has secured an order to supply, construct, test, and commission a 132kV substation in the United Arab Emirates, marking the company’s foray into the overseas market.
The orders won by L&T Construction’s PT&D Business are expected to contribute significantly to the company’s growth and expansion plans. The company’s strong track record and expertise in the power transmission and distribution sector have helped it secure these orders and position itself as a leader in the industry.
