SJVN, MAHAGENCO to develop 5000 MW RE projects in Maharashtra

The MoU is set to explore various attainable renewable sources of energy in Maharashtra.
The Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (MAHAGENCO), for the development of 5000 MW Renewable Energy Projects in the state of Maharashtra, as informed by Nand Lal Sharma, the Chairman and Managing Director of SJVN.
The MoU was signed by Geeta Kapur, Director, SJVN & P. Anablagan, Chief Managing Director, MAHAGENCO, in the presence of Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister and Power Minister of Maharashtra, and Abha Shukla, Principal Secretary Energy, of the Government of Maharashtra.
The MoU aims at exploring the possibility of establishing several renewable energy projects in Maharashtra, including Hydro, Pumped Storage, Wind, Solar, Hybrid, and Green Hydrogen Projects. Furthermore, SJVN and MAHAGENCO will collaborate in the renovation and modernisation of smaller Hydro Power stations that are currently under MAHAGENCO as per the tenders of the Government of Maharashtra.Additionally, SJVN Green Energy Limited, a subsidiary of SJVN acquired another project of 200 MW Grid Connected Wind Power Project through an e-Reverse Auction of Open Competitive Tariff bidding held by Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited.
SJVN intends to achieve its Shared Vision of 5000 MW by 2023-24, 25,000 MW by 2030, and 50,000 MW by 2040. The company now has a portfolio of 54,065 MW, of which 2091.5 MW is operational and the remainder is in various phases of development.
