What are your smart lighting systems’ key features and functionalities that set them apart from traditional lighting solutions?

Smart lighting is an energy-efficient system based on daylight availability, occupancy, and specific application requirements. Integrating smart home gadgets adds intelligence to create an intelligent home through the Internet of Things (IoT). For instance, an automated smart light may turn on the portico lights at a set time, but with IoT intelligence, it can adjust the timing precisely based on the sunset time at your home’s coordinates. However, integrating smart lighting into the IoT requires well-designed controls to avoid chaos and malfunctions in smart environments, especially in smart cities. The complexity increases as comfort levels rise. Traditional lighting controls with simple switches were manageable, but IoT introduced more personal and corporate information in the cloud, creating security vulnerabilities and cybersecurity concerns. With billions of smartphones and IoT devices connected to networks globally, compromised networks can provide hackers access to public infrastructures like traffic lights, GPS tracking systems, water services, and power plants. The scale of interconnected devices is significant and continues to grow.

How does your smart lighting technology contribute to creating a more sustainable and eco-friendly environment?

We’re seeing a global transformation to a digital world. Cities getting smart is part of that unstoppable global digital transformation. A smart City is a digital response to massive urbanisation and urban migration. There is growing recognition that more cities need to be built, especially in emerging countries, and existing cities have to become smarter and make more efficient use of limited resources. In this context, smart lighting technology is essential to optimise power consumption with increased comfort and ensure a sustainable and eco-friendly environment. The contribution of LED against conventional lamps has contributed to maximum power saving, and smart lighting has now started supplementing it further. 

How does your smart lighting system adapt to different spaces and accommodate future expansion or modifications?

The smart lighting is configured as a plug-and-play model with standardised IoT controls and modules; hence, they are fully expandable for future additions or modifications. 

How do you ensure seamless connectivity and compatibility between your smart lighting products and various devices or platforms?

K-Lite luminaires with their drivers are generally checked for compatibility with IoT devices of Internationally approved makes to suit various devices and platforms under the smart city guidelines. Security of all interfaces, mobile, fixed and cloud, must be maintained by the respective agencies. This may include additional firewalls, network traffic monitoring, and access control. With the increasing cyber security risks surrounding IoT development, companies should employ professionals to secure networks and devices against unwanted infiltration. Cybersecurity personnel must shift with the innovative new ways hackers intend to profit from unmonitored and insecure systems and proactively meet the challenges.
