New Delhi witnessed the grand celebration of the Renewable Energy Festival of India, showcasing the nation’s unwavering commitment to energy security and sustainability. The event brought together key figures in the renewable energy sector, including Bhagwanth Khuba, the Union Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilisers, New, and Renewable Energy.

During his address at the All-India Renewable Energy Associations (AIREA) Foundation Day and the National Portal for Rooftop Solar’s first anniversary, Minister Khuba highlighted India’s remarkable achievements in renewable energy production. The nation had successfully surpassed its target of generating 175 GW of renewable energy, a goal set during the COP 2015 meeting. This accomplishment garnered international recognition. Building on this success, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently unveiled an even more ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030, with a long-term vision of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.

Minister Khuba acknowledged India’s leadership in accomplishing the COP-15 goal and expressed the government’s determination to continue the journey towards net-zero emissions. He praised Prime Minister Modi’s efforts during his trips to France and America, highlighting India’s commitment to achieving its ambitious objectives across various sectors.

To drive self-sufficiency and domestic production in the energy sector, the Indian government introduced Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes for renewable energy. A significant PLI of ₹1500 crore has been initiated to install 65 GW of capacity with an investment of ₹19500 crore. India aims to produce a total of 500 GW of electricity by 2030, with 280 GW of it coming from solar power.

The government is also implementing a PLI plan for the National Hydrogen Mission worth ₹17,500 crore, reflecting India’s commitment to harnessing sustainable energy sources. The hydrogen program will be supported by forthcoming regulations, propelling India’s rapid progress in the energy sector.

Dr. Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa, shared the state’s efforts in promoting green and sustainable energy. Goa is determined to play a significant role in achieving the national goal of being net-zero.

The Renewable Energy Festival of India highlighted India’s steadfast march towards a greener and more sustainable future. With ambitious targets and strong government initiatives, the nation is setting an example for the global community in the fight against climate change and the pursuit of renewable energy sources.
