Projects include Darlipali STPP, NSPCL Rourkela PP-II expansion, and NTPC Talcher thermal power project.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the NTPC Darlipali Super Thermal Power Station (2×800 MW), NSPCL Rourkela PP-II Expansion Project (1×250 MW), and lay the foundation stone of NTPC Talcher Thermal Power Project, Stage-III (2×660 MW) during a programme in Sambalpur on February 3rd, 2024. These projects represent a total investment of ₹ 28,978 Crore.
Situated in the Sundargarh district of Odisha, the Darlipali STPP is a pit-head Power Station equipped with Supercritical Technology, supplying low-cost power to beneficiary states including Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Gujarat, and Sikkim.
The 250 MW project of NTPC-SAIL Power Company Ltd is established in the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) to provide reliable power essential for the steel plant’s economic growth.
Additionally, NTPC is developing the Talcher Thermal Power Project, Stage-III within the old TTPS plant premises in Angul district, Odisha. This project, taken over by NTPC from the Odisha State Electricity Board in 1995, features highly efficient Ultra Super Critical Technology-based units with a capacity approximately three times that of the old TTPS plant. While 50 percent of the capacity from this project is dedicated to Odisha, other beneficiary states such as Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Assam will also receive low-cost power from this pit-head station. The construction of this project incorporates modern environmental features like efficient electrostatic precipitators, Flue gas desulphurization, bio-mass co-firing, and covered storage space for coal, leading to reduced Specific Coal Consumption and CO2 emissions.
Moreover, these projects generate both direct and indirect employment opportunities in the region and contribute to the improvement of physical infrastructure including approach roads, drainage, transportation, and communication facilities. NTPC also undertakes various community development initiatives in surrounding villages, focusing on education, drinking water, sanitation, health, women empowerment, rural sports, etc. Notably, NTPC has established a Medical College cum Hospital in Sundargarh, Odisha.
