Recognition for innovative demand response programmes underscores commitment to energy conservation and efficiency.
The Tata Power Mumbai Distribution team has been honoured with the prestigious IPPAI Power Award 2024 for its innovative demand response program. This accolade recognises Tata Power’s groundbreaking efforts in energy conservation through the implementation of its Behaviour Demand Response programme for customers in Mumbai. The programme encompasses the integration of various systems, including Meter Data Management Systems and Smart Meters. Utilising artificial intelligence, the programme identifies instances of electricity overload in specific areas and communicates with consumers through messages and other platforms to encourage reduced consumption, for which incentives are provided.
Tata Power received this esteemed recognition during the 24th Regulatory and Policy Makers event organised by the Independent Power Producers Association of India (IPPAI) in Belgaum, Karnataka. The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority, and Dr. Pramod Deo, Former Chairman of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission.
This recognition serves as a testament to Tata Power’s unwavering commitment to innovation and excellence in the energy sector, reinforcing its position as a trailblazer driving positive change within the industry. The award-winning program stands out for its proactive approach to energy conservation. By utilising advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, Tata Power’s initiative identifies pockets experiencing electricity overload. Subsequently, consumers in these areas are engaged through various communication channels, including messages and other platforms. The objective is to encourage them to lower their electricity consumption voluntarily. As an incentive for participating in this demand response program, consumers receive monetary rewards.The integration of Meter Data Management Systems and Smart Meters enhances the programme’s effectiveness by providing real-time data on electricity consumption. This data enables the identification of specific areas facing overload promptly. The use of artificial intelligence further refines the programme’s ability to predict and address electricity overload, making it a pioneering and efficient solution in the energy conservation landscape.
