Agreements aim to enhance efficiency, add capacity, and promote renewable energy development in the state.

NTPC and NGEL, each signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) in Jaipur. The MoU between NTPC and RVUNL aims to explore opportunities to add supercritical units to the existing Chhabra Thermal Power Plant. Additionally, the parties aim to implement measures to enhance efficiency and reduce the power generation cost of the plant’s existing units. Furthermore, the MoU includes undertaking 15-year to 20-year annuity-based Renovation and Modernisation (R&M) of old thermal units of RVUNL, by NTPC or its affiliates. The signing took place between R Sarangapani, Executive Director, BD, IBD & Consultancy, NTPC, and Devender Shringi, Chairman, and Managing Director, RVUNL.

On the other hand, the MoU between NGEL and RVUNL focuses on the development of Renewable Energy Projects up to 25 GW capacity and Green Hydrogen Derivatives up to 1 million Ton capacity, both in the state of Rajasthan. The agreement was signed by Rajiv Gupta, Chief Executive Officer, NGEL, and Devender Shringi, Chairman, and Managing Director, RVUNL.

The signing ceremony occurred at the Chief Minister’s Office, in the presence of the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Bhajan Lal Sharma, with the Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy, R. K. Singh, and the Union Minister for Coal and Mines, Pralhad Joshi, attended the event virtually through video-conference. Also present was the Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Diya Kumari, the Minister of State for the Energy Department, Government of Rajasthan, Heeralal Nagar, Union Coal Secretary Amrit Lal Meena, and Chief Secretary of Rajasthan, Sudhansh Panth.

Representing NTPC Ltd., Chairman and Managing Director, Gurdeep Singh, Director (HR), D.K Patel, Independent Director Vivek Gupta, and other senior officials were present on the occasion. NTPC Limited, India’s largest integrated power utility, boasts over 75 GW installed capacity, contributing 25 percent of India’s total electricity demand. By the year 2032, NTPC aims to expand its non-fossil-based capacity to 45 percent-50 percent of the company’s total portfolio of 130 GW, with 60 GW of renewable energy capacity.
