.

The project, situated at Barethi RE Park in Chhatarpur District of Madhya Pradesh will be built with an an investment of ₹3,200 crore.

Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy, RK Singh, and Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar, jointly laid the foundation stone for the Barethi Solar Power Project of NTPC REL in Madhya Pradesh. The project, situated at Barethi RE Park in Chhatarpur District of Madhya Pradesh, will have a capacity of 630 MW and requires an investment of ₹3,200 Crore. Once completed, it is expected to provide electricity to over 300,000 households. This project is being developed as part of the MNRE RE Park under UMREPP Mode-8.

This initiative towards sustainable power generation will annually reduce CO2 emissions by 1.2 million tons, contributing to the country’s climate commitments and green energy targets. The commissioning of this project will not only contribute green power to the grid but also ensure affordable electricity for the beneficiaries. Moreover, the construction of the project is creating direct and indirect employment opportunities in the region.

On the occasion, Hon’ble Minister of Power and New & Renewable Energy spoke about the need to keep adding further power capacity in line with the growing power demand. He said “Ours is the fastest growing large economy in the world and our power demand too is growing fast. We need to add more power capacity to meet the growing demand. The Barethi solar power project is very important since it is 630 MW and further it is clean energy”. He further said that “NTPC is among the world’s biggest power companies which is setting up renewable energy plants in addition to thermal plants”.

Addressing the occasion, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment said “Barethi Solar Power Project will help power the development of the region. He also mentioned that besides setting up solar power plants, the government is also promoting the use of solar power in agriculture.”

Rajesh Kumar Shukla, MLA from Bijavar, Lalita Yadav, MLA from Chattarpur, and Arvind Pateria, MLA from Rajnagar, attended the program. Gurdeep Singh, CMD of NTPC, also graced the occasion virtually, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Power, Government of Madhya Pradesh, and NTPC Limited.

NTPC Limited stands as India’s largest integrated power utility, with an installed capacity exceeding 75 GW, contributing to 25% of the total electricity demand in India. By 2032, NTPC aims to increase its non-fossil fuel-based capacity to 45-50% of the company’s portfolio, incorporating 60 GW of renewable energy capacity, thereby achieving a total portfolio of 130 GW.
