India makes shining debut at World Hydrogen Summit 2024

The pavilion highlights India’s targets and initiatives in green hydrogen at a prestigious global event in Rotterdam
For the first time, India has established its own pavilion at the World Hydrogen Summit 2024 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, which was held from May 13 to 15, 2024. The India Pavilion, organised by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, stands as one of the largest pavilions at the summit and was inaugurated by Secretary Bhupinder Bhalla.
The World Hydrogen Summit holds significant prestige within the global green hydrogen ecosystem, with an expected attendance of around 15,000 delegates from across the globe. This platform allows India to showcase its advancements in green hydrogen to the international community.
The Indian delegation includes representatives from the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, as well as private sector companies. Apart from governmental interactions, the Summit facilitates engagement between Indian industries and global companies.
India launched its National Green Hydrogen Mission in January 2023, with an allocated budget of ₹19,744 crore. The country aims to achieve a green hydrogen production capacity of 5 MMT (million metric tonnes) by the end of 2030. Currently, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy has granted tenders for establishing 412,000 tonnes of green hydrogen production capacity and 1,500 MW electrolyser manufacturing capacity.India has also issued scheme guidelines for utilising green hydrogen in the steel, transport/mobility, and shipping sectors. The Department of Science and Technology has initiated Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters to encourage innovation and foster a green hydrogen ecosystem in India.
Additionally, a dedicated portal for the National Green Hydrogen Mission has recently been launched, serving as a centralised location for information on the Mission and steps taken for developing the green hydrogen ecosystem in India.
