RMC adapts SCADA system to optimise monitoring and control processes
.

The firm launched a new programme captioned ‘Engineering Treasure, ‘in which we have diversified into solar/EV/refrigeration/HVAC and water solutions in addition to electrical solutions.

India is progressing towards becoming a global power hub, necessitating initiatives that support energy security. This involves fostering innovation through smart manufacturing and startups while emphasising continuous learning. Skill diversification within the workforce is essential to meet the evolving energy demands. Amit Varshney expressed his views in talks with EPR Magazine.

What initiatives enhance energy security and promote innovative startups?

The Smart City concept/transitions, proposed by the government, shall play a very supporting role in India’s energy security. The word ‘Smart City’ shall be echoed as ‘Smart Manufacturers’, giving birth to innovative startups designing improved smart products to monitor and log energy losses. This provides the necessary manufacturing and component integration improvements to the existing small and medium electrical components, which enable them to contribute to the rising energy demands.

We have modified our electrical panel design by adding electronics and automation to support the Smart Protection Relays for the grid/feeder protection. Integrating smart protection relays requires specialised knowledge and technical skills to manage data received via Modbus, Profibus, and similar protocols. This enables easier detection of leakage currents and energy losses, enhancing overall system reliability. Our team has successfully adapted to SCADA systems to optimise monitoring and control processes.

How can organisations foster a culture of continuous learning and skill diversification?

Firstly, the manufacturers, in any segment or industry, should look to upgrade themselves since ‘Every next level of your life will demand a different version of you’. Evolving regulations are for improvement; hence, the same should be accepted with open arms. Once it becomes a culture in the organisations to allow their individuals to learn or switch between multiple/diversified job descriptions, the focus can be framed to learn the new regulations and incorporate them into the manufacturing process without adding to new skillset hiring. This ensures their products are safer and sustainable and remain competitive in the market.

New technologies such as smart grids, energy storage solutions, and renewable energy sources are attracting heavy funding in line with research and development, as the return on investments shall be very high, seeing the growing demands of energy consumption. These new technologies require a skilled workforce to design, implement, operate, and maintain the systems. Continuous training and knowledge transfer of the existing workforce and the introduction of Train-to-Hire programmes at the diploma/engineering institutions shall provide the necessary skill set at a low-cost entry-level, which shall become essential to keeping the workforce competitive and efficient.

How does the Train-to-Hire programme by RMC enhance employability for engineering students?

Our company has launched a new programme, ‘Engineering Treasure, ‘in which we have diversified into solar/EV/refrigeration/HVAC and water solutions in addition to electrical solutions.

Under our ‘Engineering Treasure, ’ we have created a Train-to-Hire programme wherein we conduct industrial training and skill development for the engineering students pursuing their second-to-final year and gear them up to be industry-ready and get employed in project management and turnkey projects. Financial planning empowers the trained engineers to meet their financial needs/goals in a corrective manner, thereby contributing to the nation’s growth.
