Communication protocols such as GOOSE, R-GOOSE, MMS and Sampled Values (including those with configurable datasets) are supported, enabling testing of both current and future relay generations.
The modular, multi-phase CMC 500 protection relay test set enables highly efficient testing of protection relays and complete validation of protection systems. It sets new benchmarks for output performance, versatility, cybersecurity, and workplace safety. With up to seven voltages (300 V each) or ten currents (30 to 60 A per channel, 450 A single-phase), the CMC 500 supports a wide range of applications, making it ideal for field use and commissioning in conventional, hybrid and digital IEC 61850 substations. The device is available in five compact and lightweight variants (12.1-15.6 kg) to suit specific needs.
Meeting increasing testing demands with efficiency
The CMC 500 achieves high testing efficiency through standardised test plans and nearly fully automated execution, including necessary documentation. Compared to manual testing, this can reduce testing efforts by 80%. The ease of repeatability and reproducibility ensure consistently high test quality without additional effort. Powerful software options enable efficient testing of setting parameters and correct protection system behaviour.
Designed for the challenges of today and tomorrow
Communication protocols such as GOOSE, R-GOOSE, MMS and Sampled Values (including those with configurable datasets) are supported, enabling testing of current and future relay generations. These protocols integrate seamlessly into test plans, allowing automated testing benefits to be fully utilised in IEC 61850 environments.
Cybersecurity by design for protecting critical infrastructure
The CMC 500 has been rigorously hardened to minimise cyber threats in substations. Equipped with an ISO/IEC-11889-compliant Trusted Platform Module (TPM2.0), it uses certificates and secure boot to prevent the execution of unknown software or malicious code. Additional security features include unique authentication and encrypted, password-protected communication between the device and the PC. OMICRON’s company-wide cyber security concept is integral to development and continues throughout the product lifecycle.More safety for users during testing
The multi-level safety concept by ISO 13849-1 includes an interlock key and an operating mode button to ensure high occupational safety. Red signal lights on the device clearly indicate any potentially dangerous output status at all times. Additionally, an interface for several external emergency switching-off buttons (available soon) allows for the simple installation of safe test setups by EN 50191.
A versatile application that even accommodates unique requirements
The CMC 500 offers an extensive range of applications. It tests protection relays across all generations, including the latest protection technologies, such as relays with sensor inputs and travelling wave protection relays. It also enables functional tests on current transformers, circuit breakers, and transducers. With ten measurement inputs (binary and analogue) for real-time measurements and signal recording, the device supports rapid troubleshooting or analysis of switching operations. A variety of accessories is also available for specialised testing tasks.
