The FleetPro™ SCADA system designed and developed in-house by Senvion enhances the management of wind turbines through its capabilities in real-time monitoring, AI-driven analytics and predictive maintenance.

Wind energy can play a significant role in achieving India’s renewable energy goal. The country is focused on overcoming land and infrastructure challenges in this energy transition landscape. Amit Kansal shares more insights.

How are Senvion Certified Sites offering supporting renewable energy goals in India?

India is addressing land acquisition and infrastructural issues to accelerate its renewable energy goals to reach 500 GW by 2030. The Green Energy Corridor project, launched in phases in 2015, improves transmission infra by including renewable energy in the national grid. Approximately 14,000,000 circuit miles of lines and substations have been commissioned through this project by 2023. By unifying land and environmental licenses, single-window clearance methods like the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan simplify solar and wind project clearances, reducing delays. Solar and wind farms can be sustainable by reusing over 30 million hectares of non-arable and wasteland, minimising agriculture disputes. We help customers discover wind project sites through our Senvion Certified Sites offering. We conduct thorough Wind Resource Assessments (WRA) and Annual Energy Production (AEP) evaluations at micro-sited locations to provide energy yield forecasts. Our Complete Site-Specific Load Assessment (SSLA) reports reduce hazards by assessing structural and environmental elements and operational efficiency. This method has improved project deadlines and reliability in windy yet logistically demanding places.

How do Senvion’s innovative R&D and tailored solutions contribute to India’s renewable energy growth while ensuring economic and environmental sustainability?

Senvion’s R&D teams in Germany and India tailor wind turbine technology for local wind conditions, such as low-to-moderate speeds (5-7 m/s). These customisations and the latest technology minimise energy costs. Our in-house-designed 4-MW turbine maximises energy outputs with a larger rotor diameter and modern technology, having a competitive LCOE. Senvion India is exploring alternate material technology for its 4XM towers and blades in addition to conventional materials to meet India’s net-zero aspirations by 2070. Though in development, these solutions indicate a move towards greener wind technology.

In what ways do digital diagnostics and predictive maintenance enhance wind turbine performance and reduce downtime?

The FleetPro™ SCADA system designed and developed in-house by Senvion enhances the management of wind turbines through its capabilities in real-time monitoring, AI-driven analytics and predictive maintenance. FleetPro™ analyses operating data, including vibration temperature and power output, to detect anomalies early on and reduce unplanned downtime by up to 20-30 percent. This approach effectively enhances energy production and prolongs the lifespan of turbines. This is particularly crucial in India, where wind farms often face seasonal wear and tear.

Integrating weather forecasting significantly enhances resilience. FleetProTM optimises turbine settings using predictive models to anticipate extreme conditions such as high winds and lightning. Based on customer feedback and subject to site conditions, we have observed a trend of lower maintenance expenses and increased uptime. FleetPro™ is designed to adapt and evolve, ensuring that it aligns with operators’ increasing demands. This commitment enhances the reliability and cost-effectiveness of wind assets, particularly in India’s competitive landscape.

What is the significance of a market-specific approach in strengthening India’s position on the global renewable energy map?

India’s significant annual investment, projected at $13 billion in 2023, shows its dedication to renewable energy.  This initiative aligns with the goals outlined in the Paris Agreement and fosters opportunities for international collaboration. Adopting a personal approach significantly enhances our domestic capabilities while establishing India as a leader in renewable energy innovation. This strategy is crucial in the global transition towards cleaner energy solutions. Through the ‘Make in India for India and the World’ approach by Senvion, we concentrate on localising the manufacture of all important components; most of our components come from locally sourced materials. Our 4 MW+ platform, on track for type-testing and RLMM listing, positions Senvion as a technological leader, drawing interest from domestic and foreign markets.
