The power demand situation in the country at present is mainly due to poor or negative industrial growth in the country. Due to the various measures being taken by the central government, the industrial growth will increase in the coming future and will spiral the power demand in the country. The planning for the power sector growth must be in the immediate time span, as the power project implementation periods are quite long in the range of 5 years and they have environmental and displacement issues. “In this situation, governments at the center and states must focus on implementation of renewable energy projects of all nature, particularly bagasse cogen and biomass power, as they have short gestation periods of mere 2 years,” suggests S. C. Natu, Sr. Vice President-Power Division, MITCON Consultancy & Engineering Services Ltd.
