.

We are determined to continue to deliver excellent products under our commitment to the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ campaign.
Yoshiaki Inayama, Managing Director, Toshiba JSW Power Systems Pvt Ltd (TJPS)
In August, Toshiba JSW Power Systems Pvt Ltd (TJPS) created a milestone by shipping its first ‘Made in India’ 800MW steam turbine generator. Now the company has drawn up plans to expand its export contribution from a single digit to 30 per cent by 2020. On the sidelines of a select media tour of TJPS’s factory near Chennai, Zaid Lakdawala speaks to the company’s Managing Director Yoshiaki Inayama. Excerpts:
Could you discuss on the future roadmap of Toshiba JSW Power Systems?Toshiba JSW Power Systems Pvt Ltd (TJPS), with its state-of-the-art facility at Chennai to manufacture subcritical, supercritical and ultra supercritical turbine and generator with unit capacities in the range of 250 MW to 1,000 MW, has already established itself as a dominant player in the supercritical steam turbines and generators (STG) in the 800 MW category in India, having won orders for ten sets.
We aim to become World No. 1 Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement, Construction and Services (EMPCS) company. We are moving in this direction by offering a one-stop solutions for establishing the power plants with indigenously sourced or manufactured products including all services for continued efficient operation, enhancing the life of plant covering renovation and modernisation.
In line with our vision to develop India as an export base, we want to expand our export contribution from a single digit to 30 per cent by 2020. Currently, we export key components of steam turbines and generators to North America, Japan and South-East Asian markets. In the coming years, plans are on to export the complete steam turbine generator sets to the world markets.
How would you like to expand your manufacturing base?Toshiba JSW began commercial operations in 2012 with a capacity to produce steam turbines and generators of 3,000 MW a year for thermal power plants. Based on the demand from the domestic and export markets, TJPS would enhance its production capacity. We are also developing a strong vendor base where TJPS can outsource some of the machining operations to other parties. This will also help us to consolidate our utilisation capacity.
