India becoming power surplus in financial year 2016-17 is really a positive development and this has been possible due to the government’s efforts to unclog the system and getting the clearance of lot of power projects due to environment clearance and financial difficulties. “Coal output which was stagnant for years has increased significantly helping many stranded power plants start generating electricity. A power surplus country can provide enough power to industries and is suitably positioned to meet any further raise in demand for power. The power sufficiency is also good news for the ‘Make in India’ initiative as a good dose of power is a necessary precursor to manufacturing. Power sufficiency also will boost small and medium enterprises along with home-based manufacturers which will further strengthen economic growth of the country,” briefs Sunil Sikka, President, Havells India while commenting on the power surplus.
