Could you share a brief about your company?
Established in 1981, Skipper Limited is one of the leading companies in the power transmission and distribution and polymer pipes and fittings segment. With over 35 years of domain knowledge, it is ranked among the largest in India and top ten globally basis the manufacturing capacity of transmission towers, distribution poles and other engineering products. When it comes to power transmission n towers and poles, Skipper undertakes each and every activity in the entire value chain, from angle rolling, to fabrication and galvanising, proto assembly, load testing and even EPC line construction. Skipper differentiates its offerings with high quality but cost effective solution for infrastructure providers and telecom operators. Its international footprint spans across continents such as Latin America, Europe and Africa and also spread across 20 countries with presence across sub-segments such as towers, EPC, monopoles and poles. The total manufacturing capacity of its engineering products division is 230000 MTPA with 3 plants in West Bengal (2 in Howrah and 1 in Uluberia) and 1 plant in Guwahati. Skipper has been awarded with several prestigious honors like the “Largest Tower Supplier” by PGCIL and most valuable contribution to the power industry by Economic Times etc.
What will be the impact of Budget 2018 on your business?
Government’s undiluted focus in the current budget announcement of 2018-19 fiscal on expanding electricity access through flagship schemes like Saubhagya and DUGJY along with the increase in the capital expenditure by Indian Railways particularly for electrification and augmentation of the line network – a move that is likely to create additional power demand and benefit our line of business. Moreover it also proposed to buy surplus solar energy from solar pumps by discoms at a reasonable price which will facilitate the solar capacity addition.
