With the emergence of higher-efficiency cell technologies, the company benefits from scalable production lines that enable seamless integration of advancements while maximising output.
With plans to expand its production capacity Credence Solar is adding a new production line to its existing fully automated 600MW facility, which is expected to be operational by mid-February 2025. This will increase the total production capacity to 2.2GW. Ashvin Patel has more to say, let us hear from him.
How do Credence ensure quality and efficiency while expanding its manufacturing capabilities and production lines?
Credence is likely leveraging automation, rigorous quality control, scalable processes, and employee training to maintain quality and efficiency during expansion. Fully automated systems ensure precision, minimise human error and optimise efficiency, a strategy expected to continue in the new production line. With modules already undergoing rigorous testing, including unique ribbing techniques for mechanical stability, strict quality assurance remains a priority from raw materials to finished products. With the emergence of higher-efficiency cell technologies, Credence benefits from scalable production lines that enable seamless integration of advancements while maximising output. Additionally, comprehensive employee training is crucial to equipping the workforce with the necessary skills, ensuring smooth operations and maintaining product quality as the company expands its manufacturing capabilities.
How does Credence Solar plan to leverage Budget declaration on domestic manufacturing to enhance its operations and market presence?
The Union Budget 2025 focuses on renewable energy and domestic manufacturing presenting a major opportunity for Credence Solar. The company’s expansion to 5GW and 1GW cell lines aligns with policy incentives, capital subsidies and low-interest financing. R&D funding for high-efficiency solar technologies could accelerate Credence Solar shift to Topcon modules, advancing its Glass-to-Glass Bifacial range (590W-730W). With export-driven incentives like duty exemptions, Credence Solar can tap global markets leveraging its ALMM and BIS-approved modules. These initiatives strengthen the company’s position as a key player in the Indian solar sector while driving technological innovation and international market growth.
The government mandates the use of locally made solar cells in clean energy projects starting June 2026. How is Credence Solar preparing to meet this requirement?Starting June 2026, India mandates that clean energy projects use solar PV modules made from locally produced cells, reducing reliance on imports especially from China. While Credence Solar has not publicly disclosed its compliance strategies, investing in domestic solar cell, wafer and polysilicon production can help secure the supply chain and enhance competitiveness. Advanced manufacturing technologies can improve efficiency and cut costs, making local cells more viable. Currently, India has 80 GW of module-making capacity but only 7 GW for cells, necessitating imports. A skills gap of 1.7 million workers by 2027 may raise costs and delay projects. The government has imposed tariffs on Chinese imports to boost domestic manufacturing and allocated $3 billion in production-linked incentives. With the goal of 500 GW non-fossil capacity by 2030, Credence Solar can capitalise on this demand by aligning with the mandate and strengthening the Indian renewable energy sector.
How do you see the Intersolar Expo 2025 and what are your preparations for the event?
Credence Solar sees Intersolar Gandhinagar 2025 as a strategic platform to showcase its latest advancements in PV module technology strengthening relationships with industry stakeholders and expanding its market presence. With the recent expansion to 2.2GW capacity of modules and plan of 1GW cell line and the introduction of high-wattage 730W Topcon bifacial modules, the expo presents a key opportunity to reinforce the position of Credence as a leading Indian module manufacturer.
