Solar is the simplest form of energy resource among other power-generating options. Simplicity in terms of plug-and-play installation, low maintenance, and a short construction period compared to nuclear plants have made solar the most attractive energy-generating source for power developers in India.
The term “cheap and best” exists only in advertisements. In reality, quality almost always has a price tag on it. The quality of modules, inverters, and other equipment is definitely an issue in the Indian solar segment. These are 25-year-long projects, and it is important to ensure good performance over the project lifetime.
The Government of India has set a target of about 500 GW by 2030 from all renewable energy sources and has revised the National Solar Mission target of grid-connected solar power projects from 175 GW to 500 GW by 2030. According to current market projections, India aims to generate 40–45 per cent of its power from renewable sources by 2030.
However, India needs to work harder to establish a robust network involving developers, government authorities, and financial institutions to work in synergy. The economics of the rooftop solar segment remain quite attractive and the industry is growing at almost a 100 per cent CAGR despite these issues.
Jodhpur-based Newtronics Green Energy (NGE) was established in 2012 with a diversified portfolio that specialises in diversified solar energy products and services for EPC projects and to supply the best quality of solar modules in polycrystalline (poly) and monocrystalline (mono), solar water irrigation pumps, and on-grid solar rooftop or ground-mounted systems for industrial, commercial, and domestic use. The company plans to introduce a solar air conditioner that would work at 36-48 volts by using the minimum wattage of solar modules.
NGE aims to build a powerful business development engine in the field of solar energy. The company works with consumers, investors, DISCOMs, and regulatory bodies to develop a sustainable framework for solar energy. They are also acting as facilitators for RESCO and Capex transactions in rooftop space. Consumers are pragmatic enough to understand that projects will take shape only when the likely return on investment (ROI) is at least 12–16 per cent.
