.

Company’s broad range of products include variable frequency drives (VFDs), programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human machine interfaces (HMIs) and servo drive systems.

Fuji Electric, a pioneering force in energy and automation technology, is spearheading India’s manufacturing sector transformation towards sustainability with innovative solutions and a focus on operational efficiency and cybersecurity. Karthik shares his views on the industry prospects with the EPR Magazine.

How are automation and control technologies by Fuji Electric contributing to the transformation of India’s manufacturing sector towards sustainability?

As energy efficiency becomes a centre point in reducing climate change risks, the need to promote the adoption of sustainable technologies gains greater significance. With this objective India’s energy sector has undergone a remarkable transformation, aimed at providing reliable, affordable and sustainable energy.

As mentioned earlier, there has been an increasing focus on reducing energy consumption and increasing the overall operational efficiency in manufacturing facilities.
Nevertheless, despite their enormous potential to lower energy usage, AC drives are frequently ignored in production operations.
The Industrial sector is a major global user of electricity, according to data from the International Energy Agency (IEA), it accounted for 37 percent of industry analysis in 2022, compared to 34 percent in 2002. Electric motor power accounts for a significant amount of this consumption, possibly accounting for over half of the industry total reported by the IEA. This highlights how crucial it is to employ the most energy-efficient AC Drives available, especially given the current situation where the Russia-Ukraine war has disrupted the global energy supply.
Our Energy efficient AC drives optimise energy usage and enhance overall operational efficiency. We at Fuji Electric with over 100years of expertise combine with our own components and semiconductor, high-quality equipment with engineering service, optimal control technologies and IoT technologies developed through frontline operations to produce a range of products that meet critical needs.  Undoubtedly, the only way forward for India’s manufacturing sector is to strengthen the automation and control solutions. More and more industries must embrace automation to be more efficient and optimize the energy uses for greater good.

What roles does the government play in integration of automation to make smart manufacturing a reality in India?

Indian government vision to be a 5 Trillion economy and manufacturing contributing over 25 percent of GDP making this sector an important pillar of any country’s economy. With the help of such initiatives, the manufacturing sector will be a key contributor to boost exports, GDP growth, and employment in India.
Many companies across the sector have already made the switch to Industry 4.0 with smart manufacturing, including cutting-edge technology like automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT), in order to boost operational efficiency.
The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) plan is one of the initiatives the Indian government has been implementing to support the country’s smart manufacturing industry. The PLI Scheme, a premier government endeavour to boost manufacturing in India. Since its introduction, it encompasses various industries, including white goods, food processing, pharmaceuticals, automotives, and textiles.
The scheme aims to incentivise companies to adopt smart manufacturing practices By offering financial incentives to businesses who produce items domestically and satisfy specific investment, sales, and export requirements, the program seeks to encourage businesses to embrace automation.
Along with that government also giving preference to local content in PSU, buying is another major push for localisation in the country.
In India, FEI is actively collaborating with industry partners, including system integrators, consultants and distributors. These partnerships are helping us extend our reach, enhance our capabilities, and provide comprehensive automation solutions to customers. We are able to offer integrated solutions for specific applications across various locations, thanks to the support, expertise and network of our partners.

How does Fuji Electric address cybersecurity concerns in its products and systems for the energy sector?

Being a century-old company with extensive knowledge in industrial control systems, Fuji Electric gives our customers’ concerns about cyber security top consideration. Our solutions are made to work with the current infrastructure and handle fundamental security measures without compromising availability, safety, or dependability.  Leading supplier of integrated energy and automation solutions, Fuji Electric has unmatched expertise working in tandem with different industries and market niches to enhance operations and promote long-term development.
