Event Highlights Role of Synchronous Condensers in India’s Green Energy Transition and Grid Stability
Amid India’s significant expansion in renewable energy capacity, ANDRITZ launched its Synchronous Condensers in India at a roadshow on June 11, 2024, themed “Synchronous Condensers – Enabling Green Energy Transition.” The event featured senior officials from CEA, Grid India, NRPC, CTUIL, and others.
ANDRITZ highlighted the global market scenario for Synchronous Condensers and showcased its expertise in grid stabilisation. The Global Product Manager of Synchronous Condensers at ANDRITZ provided in-depth insights into the key features of this technology and its capability to deliver turnkey solutions. He emphasised the impact of inverter-connected resources (wind and solar) on grid stability and the role of Synchronous Condensers in maintaining it.The event benefited from valuable perspectives shared by representatives of Grid India, NRPC, and other distinguished guests. The strong participation from stakeholders in the transmission and related sectors underscored the keen interest and support for this essential technology. It was encouraging to see that the need for Synchronous Condensers is well recognised by statutory authorities, who have initiated evaluations of weaker nodes in the Indian grid. Power Grid is already planning a pilot project to install approximately 300 MVAr Synchronous Condensers in Rajasthan. With its fully scaled-up local manufacturing setup in India, ANDRITZ looks forward to contributing to this pilot project.
