Indian power company Apraava Energy secures Science Based Targets approval for 46.3 percent greenhouse gas emissions reduction by 2027.
Apraava Energy, a prominent integrated energy solutions provider, has announced the approval of its decarbonisation target by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Apraava Energy is among the few key players in India’s power sector that have established emission reduction objectives under SBTi, and it is the second Indian power company to have its targets officially validated.
Apraava’s objective is to reduce the intensity of its greenhouse gas emissions (measured in tCO2e/MWh) in Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 46.3 percent by 2027 compared to the 2022 baseline. The validation team of SBTi has determined that Apraava’s target aligns with the 1.5ºC trajectory as outlined in the Paris Agreement.
Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Managing Director, Apraava Energy, said, “India has set ambitious carbon reduction targets, and Apraava Energy is committed to partnering the country in its journey towards achieving net zero. By aligning to the SBTi targets, we are using the latest climate science to take ambitious climate action. We are committed to India’s energy sector and will continue to look for opportunities to invest in low carbon businesses that strengthen the country’s energy security and infrastructure.”The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) encourages companies to establish science-based targets, enhancing their competitive edge during the transition to a low-carbon economy. It promotes climate action aligned with the objectives of the Paris Agreement, which seeks to restrict global warming to a level significantly below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and endeavors to limit it to 1.5°C.
Apraava Energy is dedicated to realising its SBTi targets and will quantify the sustainability initiatives as the company progresses toward becoming a comprehensive integrated energy solutions provider.
