.

The decision by Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) to revamp power tariff structure for FY 2025-26, will benefit residential (RGP), non-residential (NRGP), LT commercial (GLP, LTMD), and EV charging station users.

The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has announced a revamped power tariff structure for FY 2025-26, introducing a mix of consumer incentives and new charges aimed at promoting smart energy usage and efficient grid management.

Consumers with pre-paid smart meters will now enjoy a 2% reduction on energy charges, fostering the adoption of smart metering systems. Time-of-Use (ToU) incentives have been rolled out, offering ₹0.60/unit discounts for electricity consumed between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. These benefits are available to residential (RGP), non-residential (NRGP), LT commercial (GLP, LTMD), and EV charging station users equipped with smart meters.

Industrial and high-tension EVCS consumers will also receive the same off-peak discounts during this period. In addition, all HT consumers are now entitled to a 1% rebate, while those operating at 33kV and 66kV will receive 1.5%, and users at 132kV and above will benefit from a 2% reduction.

To balance grid load during high-demand periods, ToU charges of ₹0.45/unit will be applied to NRGP and LT-EVCS consumers with contracted demand above 10 kW, as well as HT-EVCS consumers during peak morning and evening hours.

Key Regulatory Decisions

– The additional surcharge for Open Access has been reduced to ₹0.82/unit for the first half of FY 2025-26, offering relief to open access consumers.

– An allocation of ₹1,091 crore has been approved for smart meter maintenance across DISCOMs, with the cost to be distributed among the consumer base. These changes underscore Gujarat’s commitment to modernising its energy infrastructure, optimising consumption, and promoting grid efficiency through technological adoption and demand-side management.
