EMC Kerala, the state-designated agency for energy conservation in Kerala, and AEEE, a leading not-for-profit organisation committed to promoting energy efficiency, has formed a strategic partnership to enhance energy efficiency adoption across the state. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formalising this collaboration was exchanged on February 8, 2024, during the inaugural edition of the International Energy Festival of Kerala (IEFK) held at the Tagore Theatre, scheduled from February 7-9, 2024. Notably, AEEE organised a session on ‘Catalysing Energy Efficiency in states through the ESCO route’ at IEFK after the MOU exchange.
The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation between EMC Kerala and AEEE, focusing on the strategic expansion and intensification of EMC Kerala’s initiatives through the exchange of information and knowledge, collaboration on the application and implementation of policy and practices, capacity building, and resource mobilisation. Both organizations are committed to supporting each other in expediting the uptake of cleaner and energy-efficient solutions and technologies, especially in the areas of ESCOs, MSMEs, Demand Flexibility, EE Finance, and the development of State Energy Policies.
Dr R Harikumar, Director of Energy Management Centre Kerala, expressed his enthusiasm about this collaboration, stating, “This MoU marks a crucial step towards fostering sustainable development through enhanced energy efficiency practices in Kerala. Leveraging AEEE’s proficiency in decarbonisation and energy efficiency, we will accelerate our efforts to reduce energy consumption and mitigate emissions, thereby contributing to the development of a climate resilient Kerala, in alignment with our Sustainable Development Goals and net-zero aspirations.”Dr Satish Kumar, President and Executive Director of AEEE, emphasised the significance of this partnership, stating, ” Kerala has been a flagbearer of energy management and conservation in India. Collaboration between EMC Kerala and AEEE holds immense potential to further drive impactful transformations in Kerala’s energy efficiency landscape. Through joint efforts, we aim to develop innovative strategies and solutions to address the challenges of climate change and energy transition of the region.”
Over the next three years, EMC Kerala and AEEE will work closely together to implement various policies and project related initiatives as part of this MoU across different demand sectors in the state.
