ENGIE and Gujarat Government unite for decarbonisation and advancement of renewable energy initiatives

MoU signals green commitment, job creation, and diverse collaboration, marking a milestone in India’s clean energy journey.
ENGIE has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat during the 10th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024. This collaboration aims to support a decarbonisation program for the advancement of a renewable energy infrastructure in Gujarat, making a significant contribution to the state’s clean energy transition plans.
The MoU delineates exciting collaborative efforts, with a primary focus on the development of renewable energy. As a leading low-carbon energy generation company, ENGIE is committed to undertaking a greenfield development of 2.5 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy projects across various locations in Gujarat by 2030. This commitment is in addition to ENGIE’s ongoing development of a 400-megawatt solar project in Surendernagar.
Sharing his positive outlook, Amit Jain, Country Manager, ENGIE India, conveyed, “This strategic cooperation connotes our firm dedication to advancing sustainable energy solutions. Through this cooperation with the Government of Gujarat, our goal is to play a significant role in advancing the state’s renewable energy sector and thereby making substantial contributions to India’s overarching clean energy objectives.”
Commending the visionary leadership of Bhupendra Patel, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, and highlighting the state’s resolute commitment to renewable energy, CM Patel lauded ENGIE’s notable contributions. Underscoring the importance of green initiatives, CM Patel articulated a forward-looking vision, aiming for a substantial 2.5GW by 2030.
This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signifies an investment of ₹ 17,200 crore and the creation of 14,000 new jobs, demonstrating ENGIE India’s commitment to contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.The MoU signing ceremony was attended by the Honorable Chief Minister of Gujarat, along with senior officials from the Government of Gujarat and the ENGIE Group.
Both ENGIE and the Government of Gujarat consider this strategic cooperation as a catalyst for advancing sustainable and clean energy initiatives, aligning perfectly with India’s ambitious goals for energy transition.
The partnership goes beyond renewables, encompassing collaborative efforts in decarbonisation initiatives, capacity building for Gas/LNG trading risk management, and exploring the potential centralisation of ENGIE’s treasury activities in India at GIFT City (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City).
