EV registrations see 42 percent increase on e-Vahan portal

As per the approved applicants, investments under the FAME II scheme amount to ₹ 17,896 crore, with incremental sales reaching ₹ 3,370 crore by March 31, 2024.
New Delhi: In FY24, electric vehicle registrations on the e-Vahan portal reached 1,681,127, up from 1,183,341 in FY23, reflecting a 42.06 percent increase, as reported to Parliament by Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Steel, Bhupathi Raju Srinivasa Varma.
The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) noted that, as of July 29, a total of 4,574,938 electric vehicles have been registered on the portal. The government introduced the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for the automotive and auto components industry (PLI-Auto) in 2021 with a budget of ₹ 25,938 crore. As per the approved applicants, investments under this scheme amount to ₹ 17,896 crore, with incremental sales reaching ₹ 3,370 crore by March 31, 2024.
FY25 will be the first year for incentive disbursements under the PLI-Auto scheme. Currently, 10 approved applicants with 12 manufacturing sites in Gujarat are involved. The Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) Scheme, initiated in 2015, aims to boost the adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles. Under Phase II of this scheme, OEMs have claimed subsidies for 1,671,606 electric vehicles, ₹ 6,825 crore.The Centre has also sanctioned 6,862 electric buses for intra-city operations under FAME-II, with 4,853 delivered by July 31. To further promote electric vehicle adoption, the government is preparing to launch FAME 3.0.
