In a landmark address from the Red Fort on India’s 78th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi articulated a visionary plan for the country’s future, focusing on establishing India as a global powerhouse in semiconductor production. Modi’s speech highlighted the significant strides India has made in the tech sector, particularly noting the country’s transition from being a mobile phone importer to a major manufacturing hub with increasing global exports.
Modi emphasised that the rise of semiconductor technology and artificial intelligence is crucial to India’s future growth. He introduced the Indian Semiconductor Mission, a strategic initiative aimed at positioning India at the forefront of global semiconductor production. “There was a time when we used to import mobile phones,” Modi remarked. “Today, we have built a robust manufacturing ecosystem, and India has emerged as a significant player in the global market.”
