Maharashtra and Gujarat excel in renewable energy capacity
.

With total installed capacities reaching 17,879.62 MW and 28,405.91 MW as of June 2024, respectively the two states have emerged as front-runners in the renewable energy sector.

Maharashtra and Gujarat the two neighbouring states have achieved a milestone by building 17,879.62 MW and 28,405.91 MW of renewable energy capacity respectively as of June 2024. This was shared through data by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The MNRE’s disbursal of substantial funds to support renewable energy projects in the states has been instrumental in driving growth. Between 2014-15 and 2023-24, Maharashtra received ₹1,656.15 crore, while Gujarat benefitted from ₹4,490.24 crore in Central Financial Assistance (CFA) as part of various government schemes and programmes. This impressive growth is attributed to the proactive efforts of private sector developers, who have successfully secured funding for their projects, coupled with the supportive policies and financial assistance provided by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

Furthermore, the Ministry of Coal has identified two sites in Madhya Pradesh for the establishment of Green Ammonia Plants, marking a strategic step towards sustainable energy solutions. The plants will be located at the South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) in the Johilla Area and Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) in its Pench Area, specifically in Jamunia Pathar Village, Parasea Tehsil of Chhindwara District.
