MNRE approves ₹5.15 bn solar energy initiative for tribal communities

The objective of this programme is to electrify 1 lakh PVTG households in areas where power supply through the grid is not techno-economically viable.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energyhas taken a historic step to brighten the lives of tribal communities, by approving a ₹ 5.15 billion solar power programme for habitations and villages of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) under the Pradhan Mantri Tribal Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM Janjanam). The objective of this programme is to electrify 1 lakh PVTG households in areas where power supply through the grid is not techno-economically viable.
This programme will provide electricity to villages through off-grid solar power systems of 0.3 kW each. This will lighten families in the remote areas enabling people to study at night, run businesses better and have easier access to health services. Local business will flourish benefitting the community making daily living easier.
