The task force led by A.K Tripathi will refine India’s geothermal framework, recommend technologies, and initiate pilot projects for sustainable energy.
In a significant move towards diversifying India’s renewable energy portfolio, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has established a dedicated task force to accelerate the development of geothermal energy across the country. This new group, led by A.K. Tripathi from MNRE, will review and refine the “Indian Geothermal Energy Development Framework” to make better use of geothermal resources as a sustainable energy option.
The Task Force will look at global geothermal technology and practices to understand the best ways to use this energy source. They will make recommendations on how to develop geothermal energy in India, focusing on viable technologies and creating a solid plan for the sector’s growth. The Task Force will also consult with industry experts to ensure the framework is practical and well-informed. Additionally, the task force will initiate pilot projects in identified regions to demonstrate the viability of geothermal energy in the Indian context.
This push for geothermal energy development is expected to address key challenges, including technical, financial, and regulatory hurdles, and position India as a leader in renewable energy innovation. The effort is also aligned with commitment of the country to reduce its carbon footprint contributing to global climate change mitigation efforts.
