MNRE highlight’s energy transition with bioenergy for sustainable development

The need for an energy transition, the efforts made by the nation in this regard, and the role of bioenergy in the same were all highlighted during the opening session by Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, Secretary MNRE. Dinesh Jagdale, Joint Secretary (Bioenergy), MNRE, emphasised the importance of having such workshops in order to foster interest in the sector and the growing importance of bioenergy on a global scale.
A workshop on “Bioenergy for Sustainable Development: Case Studies and Best Practises” was organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in New Delhi in collaboration with UNIDO and the GEF.
Representatives from the industry, project developers, state implementing agencies, financial institutions, and representatives of several stakeholder ministries of the Indian government attended the workshop.The workshop covered a variety of topics, including case studies of CBG plants based on press mud and segregated urban food waste, case studies of medium and small biogas plants, case studies of biomass plants including innovative biomass supply chain management systems and pellet manufacturing, a code of practise for BIS standards, a panel discussion on financing waste-to-energy biomethanation projects, and the importance of innovations in the growth of the biomethanation sector. The case studies highlighted the procedures adopted by various types of bioenergy plants across the nation. New methods of financing the development of the biomass supply chain were highlighted throughout the panel discussions as a way to improve the sustainability of the bioenergy industry.
