NHPC and Ocean sun collaborate for floating solar energy

Collaboration aims to deploy innovative solar panels on hydro-elastic membranes for renewable energy generation.
NHPC Limited, India’s largest organisation for hydropower development, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ocean Sun, a Norwegian company specialising in floating solar technology. Under the MoU, NHPC and Ocean Sun will explore cooperation in demonstrating Ocean Sun’s floating solar energy technology, which utilises photovoltaic panels mounted on hydro-elastic membranes. NHPC will identify suitable sites for these installations.
This agreement is part of NHPC’s ongoing commitment to sustainable development and the expansion of renewable energy capacity. NHPC is actively involved in various renewable energy projects including solar, wind, and green hydrogen.The MoU was signed on April 29, 2024, in a hybrid format, with V.R. Shrivastava, Executive Director (Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen) representing NHPC, and Kristian Tørvold, CEO of Ocean Sun. The signing ceremony was attended by H.E. May-Elin Stener, Ambassador of Norway to India, Raj Kumar Chaudhary, Director (Technical) of NHPC, and Rajat Gupta, Executive Director (Strategy Business Development & Consultancy) of NHPC, along with officials from the Embassy of Norway in New Delhi and the Embassy of India in Oslo.
