Emerges successful in competitive bidding for Omkareshwar Reservoir project, strengthening NTPC’s leading position in renewable energy
NTPC Renewable Energy Limited has emerged triumphant in securing the rights to develop an 80 MW floating solar power project situated at the Omkareshwar Reservoir in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh. This feat was accomplished through a competitive bidding process held on August 8, 2023, orchestrated by Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL), a dynamic collaboration between the esteemed Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and MP Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. The resultant tariff, standing at a commendable ₹3.80/kWh, has been established for the energy generated by this project, which is destined to serve the electricity demands of Madhya Pradesh’s state distribution companies (DISCOMs).
This achievement propels NTPC’s floating solar portfolio to an impressive cumulative capacity of 342 MW. It’s noteworthy that the most substantial floating solar initiative currently operating in the country is situated at NTPC Ramagundam in Telangana, boasting an impressive 100 MW capacity.
Presently, the broader NTPC Group commands an operational renewable energy capacity of 3.3 GW, and this is further complemented by an ambitious 20 GW capacity that is currently in the developmental pipeline. Notably, this expansive pipeline includes a substantial 4 GW dedicated to pioneering Energy Storage Systems, a technology poised to play a pivotal role in India’s energy landscape. Adding to its impressive roster of endeavors, NTPC proudly pioneers the nation’s first Green Hydrogen-based PNG blending project, solidifying its reputation as a trailblazer in the realm of sustainable energy solutions.Envisioning a greener and more sustainable future, NTPC has set its sights on an ambitious target of achieving a monumental 60 GW of Renewable Energy capacity by the year 2032.
