Recently, NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN), a fully owned subsidiary of NTPC, officially launched its first rooftop solar photovoltaic project at IIT Jodhpur in Rajasthan.
The 25-year Power Purchase Agreement for the one MW Grid-connected Solar Project was implemented by NVVN using the RESCO methodology. According to the RESCO model for installing rooftop solar, a renewable energy service company (“RESCO”), or an energy service provider that supplies energy to consumers from renewable sources, designs, builds, finances, and operates the entire solar power plant (roof or ground-mounted), consumer pays the developer against assured monthly unit generation per kW, and DISCOM adjusts generated units in consumer’s electricity bill.
On top of 14 buildings on the IIT campus, the project is installed. 15percent of IIT Jodhpur’s electricity needs will be satisfied by the rooftop project’s annual output of 14.9 lakh units. 1,060 tones less carbon dioxide will be emitted annually as a result of the project.
To capitalise on the potential of power trading in the nation, NTPC established NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited in the year 2002. According to the most recent Central Electricity Regulatory Commission rule, NVVN is the only entity to hold the highest Category “I” power trading license.Gypsum trading company NVVN is expanding into renewable energy, e-mobility, and waste-to-green-fuel conversion, as well as providing comprehensive business solutions along the entire power value chain.
