Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently unveiled the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at fostering sustainable development and enhancing the welfare of citizens. With an impressive investment exceeding Rs. 75,000 crores, the the rooftop solar scheme will benefit 1 crore households with free electricity monthly.
PM informed through the social media platform X, “In order to further sustainable development and people’s wellbeing, we are launching the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This project, with an investment of over Rs. 75,000 crores, aims to light up 1 crore households by providing up to 300 units of free electricity every month.”
One of the hallmark features of this initiative is its commitment to alleviating the financial burden on individuals. Through substantive subsidies disbursed directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts and highly concessional bank loans, the government ensures that citizens face no financial hurdles in availing themselves of this opportunity. Additionally, the seamless integration of all stakeholders into a National Online Portal enhances accessibility and convenience for applicants.
The PM emphasised the importance of grassroots engagement in promoting renewable energy adoption. To this end, Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats will be incentivised to facilitate the installation of rooftop solar systems within their jurisdictions. This localised approach not only fosters community involvement but also contributes to economic empowerment by reducing power bills and generating employment opportunities.Furthermore, the PM highlighted the role of youth in driving the success of the Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Encouraging residential consumers, especially youngsters, to embrace solar power, he urged active participation in the scheme through the dedicated online portal.
By harnessing the power of solar energy, the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana not only addresses energy poverty but also lays the foundation for sustainable progress. It stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to leveraging innovation and inclusive policies to improve the lives of millions across the nation.
