The acquired SPVs named Vataman Transmission Limited, Koppal II Gadag II Transmission Limited, Bikaner III Neemrana Transmission Limited and Neemrana II Bareilly Transmission Limited shall facilitate integration of Renewable Energy Zones.
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, GoI, has successfully acquired four Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) for Inter-state Transmission System (ISTS) Projects which were bid out through Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process. The acquired SPVs—Vataman Transmission Limited, Koppal II Gadag II Transmission Limited, Bikaner III Neemrana Transmission Limited and Neemrana II Bareilly Transmission Limited shall facilitate integration of Renewable Energy Zones, immediate power evacuation and establishment of new ISTS transmission infrastructure.
Vataman Transmission Limited shall implement the Transmission System, comprising the establishment of a new 765/400 kV switching station at Vataman, Ahmedabad; three 765 kV D/C transmission lines (including a LILO line) traversing in the state of Gujarat; and extension works at Navsari and Halvad substations in the state of Gujarat. The project is to be commissioned within 24 months. This project shall facilitate the evacuation of RE power of 7 GW from Khavda Region for onward dispersal of power to various beneficiaries on the ISTS network.
Koppal II Gadag II Transmission Limited shall implement the Transmission System comprising the establishment of a new 765/400kV Koppal-II Polling Station, a new 400/220kV Gadag-II Pooling Station, 2 nos. of 765kV D/C transmission lines traversing in the state of Karnataka, and a 400kV D/C transmission line traversing in the state of Karnataka, as well as associated bay extension works at Narendra and Raichur Substations in the state of Karnataka. The project, set to be commissioned within 24 months, aims to integrate and evacuate 1 GW of potential at Koppal-II and Gadag-II, and the remaining 1 GW at Koppal-II.
The transmission system, which will be implemented by Bikaner III Neemrana Transmission Limited, will consist of building a new 765/400/220 kV Pooling Station at Bikaner-III, two 400 kV D/C and one 765 kV D/C transmission lines that will cross the state of Rajasthan, and related bay extension works at Neemrana-II Substation in Rajasthan. The project must be put into service in a year and a half.Neemrana II Bareilly Transmission Limited shall implement the Transmission System comprising the establishment of a new 765 kV D/C transmission line traversing in the states of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, along with associated bay extension works at Neemrana-II Substation in the state of Rajasthan and Bareilly Substation in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The project is to be commissioned within 24 months.
Bikaner III Neemrana Transmission Limited and Neemrana II Bareilly Transmission Limited will implement two projects in the 765kV high-capacity corridor, POWERGRID, to evacuate 4 GW of renewable energy power from Bikaner-III Pooling Station Region, reducing dependency on fossil fuels and achieving India’s 500 GW renewable energy target by 2030.
As on 31st December 2023, POWERGRID has commissioned and operated 276 Sub-stations and more than 1,76,531 ckm transmission lines and 5,17,861 MVA of transformation capacity. With the adoption of latest technological tools and techniques, enhanced use of automation and digital solutions, POWERGRID has been able to maintain average transmission system availability of 99.86 percent.
