SJVN acquires 2.4 GW pumped storage project in Mizoram

The SJVN Limited a Mini Ratna category I hydroelectric power generation company has acquired a 2.4 GW pumped storage project in the state of Mizoram. This project is the first undertaking by the company in the state spanning in Darzo Nallah, a tributary of the Tuipui River flowing in Mizoram. The Company is the largest operational hydroelectric power generation facility in India based on installed capacity, with an aggregate generation capacity of 1912 MW.
The assessed cost of the project upon completion is INR 13,947.50 crores, including IDC (interest during construction) and financing costs, based on April 2023 price levels. The pumped storage project is a closed-loop type and will consist of eight units, each with a capacity of 300 MegaWatt.“The annual energy generation with 95 percent plant availability shall be 4,993.20 MU. The annual input energy required for pumping water to the upper reservoir has been estimated to be 6,331.66 MU with 95 percent plant availability,” the company stated on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). SJVN expects to complete the project within 72 months. The agreement between SJVN and the Government of Mizoram is to be signed within three months.
