The substantial 3 MW wind turbine project by Suzlon empowers O2 Power’s expansion in renewable energy.
Suzlon Group, India’s leading provider of renewable energy solutions, has announced a substantial achievement in securing a new order for its 3 MW series of wind turbines from O2 Power Private Limited’s subsidiary, Teq Green Power XI Private Limited. This order entails the installation of 64 of Suzlon’s most sizeable wind turbine generators (WTGs), each boasting a rated capacity of 3.15 MW. These WTGs will be mounted on Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) towers, forming a pivotal part of a 201.6 MW wind power project. The anticipated completion date for this project is 2025.
Under the terms of the agreement, Suzlon will be responsible for the supply of wind turbines as well as the seamless execution of the project, encompassing the erection and commissioning processes. Moreover, Suzlon will extend its expertise in operation and maintenance services following the commissioning phase.
This landmark project is expected to empower O2 Power in providing electricity to approximately 166,000 households and in mitigating roughly 655,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman, Suzlon Group said, “We are delighted to welcome Teq Green Power XI Private Limited, part of O2 Power Private Limited as our esteemed customer through this project. With an extremely conducive policy environment this order from Teq Green Power XI Private Limited is a testament of India Inc’s commitment to building a sustainable India. The Suzlon 3 MW series is the next stage evolution of our proven technology, customised for the Indian wind regime and 3.15 MW is one of the largest wind turbines in the country today.”
JP Chalasani, Chief Executive Officer, Suzlon Group said, “We are happy to announce our first order from Teq Green Power XI Private Limited, part of O2 Power Private Limited. With increasing commitment to renewables and rising demand, it is heartening to see more customers joining the Suzlon family. We believe that our 3 MW series will be a true game changer for the sector to accelerate and scale up wind energy installations in the country in line with our national targets of 500 GW non-fossil fuel installations by 2030.”
Parag Sharma, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, O2 Power Private Limited said, “This partnership with Suzlon for their 3.15 MW turbines for our wind energy project, represents a milestone in our capability enhancement goals, and reflects our determination to work with the best available technologies in our nation-building journey”.
Rakesh Garg, Founder and Head Wind, O2 Power Private Limited said, “We are committed to contributing significantly to India’s renewable energy targets and are delighted to partner with Suzlon and glad to have them as our partners in continuing our journey towards greener future with this project”.Suzlon 3 MW Series
Suzlon Group, renowned as India’s premier provider of renewable energy solutions, takes immense pride in unveiling its latest innovation, the 3 MW series of wind turbines. With a primary focus on enhancing power generation, lowering energy costs, and contributing to the spirit of a self-reliant India (Aatmanirbhar Bharat), this series stands as a significant milestone not only for the company but also for the nation’s wind energy sector.
The 3 MW turbines by Suzlon boast an impressive rotor diameter of 144 meters and have been meticulously designed to tap into low-wind locations, delivering an enhanced energy output suitable for all wind conditions prevalent in India. Demonstrating Suzlon’s steadfast commitment to innovation and self-sufficiency, this series achieves a local content of 85-90 percent upon its sequential launch.
Among these turbines, the S144 wind turbine generator emerges as one of India’s largest, with the potential to extend up to 3.15 MW, contingent upon the wind conditions at the site. These turbines can be mounted at a hub height ranging from 140 meters, which can escalate up to 160 meters following their gradual launch. Upon reaching this height, the S144 will also stand as India’s tallest wind turbine. Notably, Suzlon’s S144 fleet is projected to yield a remarkable 40-43 percent higher energy generation compared to the company’s existing model, the S120 – a 2.1 MW wind turbine. This achievement underscores its proficiency in optimizing wind resources at elevated altitudes and rendering low-wind locations viable.
Furthermore, the 3 MW turbine generators incorporate the well-proven Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) technology along with Suzlon’s own SB 70.5 carbon fiber blade, an innovation crafted and refined by the company. This cutting-edge technology enables the utilization of sleeker aerodynamic profiles, resulting in outstanding performance even in low-wind areas, and a substantial escalation in energy yield per unit of land.
