Tata Power Appoints Deepesh Nanda as Renewables President and CEO

Deepesh Nanda takes the reins to lead Tata Power’s renewable energy expansion, ushering in a new era.
Tata Power, one of India’s largest integrated power companies, has officially named Deepesh Nanda as the President of Renewables and the CEO & MD of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power.
A distinguished leader in the energy sector,Nanda brings an extensive 28 years of experience garnered from his tenure at companies such as GE, Flowserve, and Tyco. Mr. Nanda transitions to Tata Power from his previous role as the Chief Executive Officer for South Asia at GE Gas Power, where he oversaw operations in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, and Nepal. Furthermore, he held the position of President & CEO of GE’s Aero-derivative Gas Turbine business segment for Asia. Nanda is an accomplished alumnus of India’s Annamalai University, with a degree in Mechanical & Production engineering. Additionally, he pursued an MBA from the Open University Business School, Milton Keynes, UK, and completed extensive leadership training at GE Crotonville.
In his new capacity, Nanda will be entrusted with the responsibility of propelling the growth and profitability of Tata Power’s renewable energy portfolio, which includes solar, wind, hybrid, and B2C green energy solutions. He will also spearhead innovation and digital transformation initiatives within the renewable energy sector.

His expertise and vision will be instrumental as we aim to reinforce our position as the most preferred and trusted green energy solutions company.”The key leadership change at Tata Power aims to provide a more focused approach to different business and growth areas. Ashish Khanna, a longstanding Tata Power executive, will transition to the crucial segment of the Generation business cluster. This cluster encompasses the company’s upcoming pumped hydro storage plants, hydro plants, and other new initiatives, in addition to the existing hydro and thermal plants both in India and abroad.
Dr. Sinha expressed his appreciation for Khanna, recognising the pivotal role he played in driving the growth of Tata Power Solar and Renewables business to its current prominent position as one of the country’s leading renewable energy companies. Dr. Sinha conveyed, “I would like to extend my gratitude to Ashish Khanna for his outstanding contributions to the growth and success of our renewable energy business over the past seven years. Under his leadership, TPREL has grown to become one of the largest renewable energy companies in the country, with a portfolio of over 4 GW of operational projects and another 3 GW of projects currently under construction. I have full confidence that he will provide the necessary guidance and foster growth in his new role within our Generation businesses.”
