Panasonic YOl-en, a cutting-edge cloud-based smart lighting system, is transforming urban landscapes worldwide. It enables remote, colourful light displays, connecting streetlights to the cloud for dynamic, customisable illumination. This innovative technology beautifies cities and landmarks, showcasing a harmonious blend of aesthetics and advanced lighting control on a global scale.
YOI-en is a new cloud service that’s changing how we light up our cities. Imagine controlling and creating amazing light shows in the towns from anywhere in the world. That’s what YOI-en does. It connects streetlights to the cloud, lighting them in different colours and patterns, creating a beautiful night-time scene.
In Mumbai’s Powai Area, they’ve started using YOI-en to control the lights. The best part? The commands for these light shows are sent from Japan, showing how YOI-en can be used globally.
Brightening up key landmarks with Panasonic
Panasonic is working with Hiranandani Group in India to light up some important buildings at Powai during the end-of-year season. They’re using YOI-en to change the colours and patterns of the lights right from their mobile phones. This project, called Sparkle Powai, is a great example of collaboration between Panasonic’s teams in Japan and India.
YOI-en at Yokohama Stadium and Beyond
YOI-en is for more than just streets and buildings. It’s also used at Yokohama Stadium for an event called ‘Ballpark Fantasia.’ This system allows for advanced lighting control from a computer, making it easy to create large-scale light displays across the city.
During normal days, YOI-en works as regular streetlights. But on special occasions, it turns into a tool for dynamic light shows. It can even change colours to match people’s clothes in photo booths, thanks to its connection with cameras and gesture-based controls.
Tokyo Skytree’s LED revolution
Tokyo Skytree is another landmark that uses innovative lighting. In 2012, it pioneered the use of LED lights on a large scale. A big update in 2020 made its lights visible from 20km away without being too bright up close. Panasonic’s team carefully planned each light fixture’s placement, ensuring a perfect lighting design.Japan National Stadium
Panasonic also demonstrated its lighting expertise at Japan’s National Stadium. They supplied key equipment for the stadium, including big screens and sound systems that enhanced the excitement. The lights they installed brighten the playing field and contribute to an amazing experience for the fans. The stadium, finished on November 30, 2019, boasts around 600 digital signs, the most Panasonic installed in one location. They set up special lights for the Tokyo Olympics that were perfect for TV broadcasts.
In 2022, Japan’s National Stadium received the esteemed “Japan Lighti Award,” acknowledging it as Japan’s most impressive lighting project. This award, which is rarely given and typically goes to only one or two recipients annually, underscores the stadium’s remarkable achievements in lighting innovation within the country.
Panasonic has been a leader in electrical devices since 1918, starting with the “Attachment Plug.” The Electric Works Company, a part of Panasonic, focuses on developing electrical facilities like wiring devices, lighting, and energy management products. It’s a major player in the market, especially in Japan. They’re aiming to grow their business globally, especially in India.
Panasonic Electric Works India is part of this big picture. They handle the electrical construction materials business and have several manufacturing facilities in India. They focus on wiring devices, lighting, energy management, and air-related products in the domestic market.
“Panasonic Life Solutions India (PEWIN) plans to enhance its lighting business towards 2030, aiming to be India’s No.1 lighting company. The cloud-based lighting control system, a new technology challenge, enables simultaneous remote control of lighting fixtures in multiple locations over a wide area through the customer experience, leading to an increase in the real estate value of the town. The web application was utilised to give users the experience of managing the lighting effects. This is the first time YOI-en (night festival in Japanese) technology has been implemented in Mumbai. Although it is still in the pilot stage of implementation in India, we have conducted numerous events of this type in Japan and were able to verify the potential demand this time around. We would like to look for more such ventures to make the city shine together with us in the future.” – Masato Miyamaru, Director Lighting business PEWIN, Panasonic Life Solutions India.
