ELECRAMA is India’s largest event for the electrical industry, where Indian and international customers and key decision-makers come under one roof. We are consistently participating in ELECRAMAs, and every time it has provided us with a unique experience, says Bhushan Sawhney, Executive President and Chief Business Officer of Polycab India.
What will be Polycab’s focus at ELECRAMA 2023?
As India’s largest wires and cable company, our advanced and innovative product portfolio is ever-expanding. And, ELECRAMA gives us the right platform to showcase this to our current and potential customers. Thus, it is a potential platform for us to establish new business prospects and relationships.
This time, we are demonstrating our products from an industry viewpoint, and we have chosen eight distinct industries to do so. We will also exhibit our entire range of Smart Home Automation products and our FMEG product range, which includes fans, lights, luminaries, switches, switchgear, pumps, and solar.
How did the wires and cables business fare in 2022?
2022 was neither exceptional nor was it negative for us. Luckily, we did not see any major waves of COVID-19, and thus the market kept running. What posed a problem this year was volatility in raw material prices. A stable cost index for the two non-ferrous metals, copper and aluminium, increases confidence in the market among buyers and sellers. Likewise, a non-stable cost index increases nervousness in the market due to sudden price fluctuations and variations.
The Indian wires and cables market makes up around 45 percent of the electrical industry. How did you see it performing in the green and smart cable segments?
The biggest challenge for the green and smart wires and cables segment is the need for more awareness and push. We are constantly ensuring that our consumers are educated about bad products and know which ones they need to choose for a safer tomorrow. However, a push to change their choices requires much more. We also need regulatory acceleration in this direction.
Although there are very few regulations governing green product options in the cable and wire industry, Polycab has been taking many initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint in producing and supplying cables. One such industry innovation is Polycab green wires. Green wires bring more safety with low smoke and toxic gas emissions, fire resistance, zero halogen gas, flame retardant properties, long-term circuit integrity, a longer lifespan, and low-cost installation.
If green products are not part of India’s future, our future is bleak. However, optimistically, a positive takeaway is that the country has now resolved to attain carbon neutrality by 2070. In this context, it is expected that there will be a surge in the uptake of renewable, energy-conserving, and eco-friendly wires. Additionally, with the growth and awareness of authorities and bodies like the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), the trend for eco-friendly products is upward.
