Measurement International’s transformer testing systems, AccuLoss®, provide the electrical power generation, transmission, and distribution industry with the tools needed to confirm that transformers meet the requirements of operating with high efficiency and minimal losses.
Measurement International is a global leader in electrical metrology, providing high-precision instruments and solutions for resistance and voltage traceability. Trusted by National Measurement Institutes and industrial labs worldwide, MI leverages 35 years of expertise to ensure superior measurement accuracy with consistency and traceability. Let us know more from Rajesh Vijay, Director of Measurement International.
Can you elaborate on the latest advancements in electrical metrology that MI has contributed to and their impact on global scientific research and trade?
Measurement International (MI) has long been a trusted provider of electrical metrology solutions, especially in resistance and voltage traceability. Over the past 35 years, we have worked closely with National Measurement Institutes (NMIs) worldwide, including the NPL in India and numerous industrial laboratories, to ensure superior accuracy and consistency in measurements. Our metrology instruments support scientific research and global trade, particularly by ensuring that electrical measurements align with international standards. As the demand for renewable energy grows, these precise measurements are even more critical to the global integration of sustainable technologies.
How do your measurement technologies support accurate monitoring and optimisation of power grids amid rising RE integration?
Our AccuLoss® transformer testing systems support the power generation, transmission, and distribution sectors. These tools help confirm that transformers are operating efficiently with minimal losses. Since today’s power transmission systems increasingly deal with diverse energy sources, including renewables, transformers must meet manufacturer guarantees and user expectations. MI’s automated testing systems allow it to detect faults and inefficiencies in transformers, ensuring that the equipment performs optimally. This supports the stability and efficiency of power grids that integrate more renewable energy sources.
MI is a leader in electrical power transformer testing. What are the key innovations or technologies MI has introduced in this area to enhance testing accuracy and efficiency?MI has been at the forefront of transformer testing innovations. One of our flagship products, the ALMS® system, offers the highest commercial accuracies today—0.05 per cent for voltage, 0.005 per cent for current, and ≤ 0.61 per cent for power at a low power factor of 0.01. These accuracy levels are essential for manufacturers who aim to design more energy-efficient transformers. Another breakthrough is the 2020A series of power analysers, which use simultaneous sampling technology. This advancement improves the accuracy and reliability of the AccuLoss® system, especially in low power factor scenarios. The high-precision equipment, small phase errors, and compensated current transformers give MI a significant edge in measuring transformer losses across various power factors.
How can budget policies better support renewable energy growth, and how do you see the upcoming Elecrama 2025?
Renewable energy is undoubtedly the future of global power generation, and we must continue to support it through targeted budget policies. Policymakers should focus on the power sector, particularly on metrology standards. These standards are key to ensuring renewable energy systems’ high efficiency and sustainability. Budget policies that ease import duties on metrology equipment and provide exemptions for research and development tools can significantly impact. This would allow for more cost-effective development and deployment of energy-efficient technologies, supporting the growth of the renewable energy sector.
Speaking of Elecrama 2025, we are eager to interact with professionals from the renewable energy sector and discuss how Measurement International’s solutions can help optimise grid operations and transformer performance in the face of increasing renewable energy integration. It is a chance to strengthen our position as the preferred provider of high-precision measurement technologies while exploring new expansion opportunities globally.
