Power-efficient cables to decrease the loss transmission current

Power-efficient cables to decrease the loss transmission current
.

The Power Ministry has tried to make everything transparent from electricity generation to distribution under the new policy – UDAY 2.0.

NamanSinghal, Director, Prime Cable Industries Pvt Ltd discusses how electricity load should be checked from time-to-time to ensure whether the industries are following the fixed electricity load norms or not; also provided cables with mark of top quality are used so as to decrease the loss of current during transmission.

Moving away from power generation and focusing on supply. Your take?
Currently, the DISCOMs are going through financial crises. So, yes the government, in my opinion, has taken the right decision. We need to understand that once the power supply problem is fixed, government can then focus on the power generation part. As per the need, the power generation is quite enough to supply electricity to the whole country.

Focusing on supply means to proper distribute electricity with complete transparency. With this decision, we will see the mix of efficient power supply and optimum electricity generation.

What policy or tariff changes are you expecting to come under the UDAY 2.0 as it is supposedly aimed at improving operations of the DISCOMs and to reduce AT&C losses?
As we all know, DISCOMs owe a whopping amount to the GENCOs and it is not easy to recover these losses for them. With this welcoming decision, the Power Ministry has tried to make everything transparent from electricity generation to distribution under the new policy – UDAY 2.0. Tariffs may get a hike in the coming few years. So, the reasonable or affordable hike will be welcomed and not the burdened hikes. As per the logical understanding, it was a great solution taken by the government.

DISCOMs are facing one of the greatest threats of cyberattack. On the wake of this, how is an efficient supply possible?
In the last two years, around 5 cyberattacks have been reported including high-profile cyber-attack on THDC Ltd’s Tehri Dam in Uttarakhand and ransomware attack on West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd (WBSEDCL).

What kind of cabling infrastructure should be in place for an efficient supply?
From the house wiring to the direct current cables, each of them should be used with the mark of top-quality. Bad quality cables are the source of frequent electricity failures. Secondly, the electricity load should be checked from time-to-time to ensure whether the industries are following the fixed electricity load norms or not.

Using the right cable at the right place may lead to an efficient supply of electricity. The all wrong cables should be replaced with the power-efficient cables to decrease the loss of current while transmission.

There were reports of Power Ministry bringing in norms to promote green transmission cables. What are your thoughts on the same?
It is happening for the first time in India when a government has given thought about resolving an environmental issue. If the government is thinking so, then the decision will be warmly welcomed. Doing so will cut down on “lead poisoning”, the extremely harmful pollutant for the people, especially for our younger generation.

Also, we request the Power Ministry to think about the existing stock of the cables we are selling in the market. The quick and unplanned decision by the government may lead to a great loss for industries like us.
