The global substation automation market is estimated to be USD 54.2 billion by 2026 from USD 39.9 billion in 2021 (estimated year), at a CAGR of 6.3% between 2021 and 2026. The growth of the substation automation market is fueled by surging requirements to retrofit conventional substations, rising use of digital technology to improve grid efficiency in smart cities and more.
Technological advancements in the transmission infrastructure segment are expected to play a vital role in efficient network upgrade and expansion. Because of this technological advancement, the initial cost required for setting up a digital substation is high. The increasing use of technologies such as the microprocessor and service-oriented architecture (SOA) technologies, as well as the rise in the number of embedded IEDs in substations, have increased the purchase costs of these substations.
On this note, EPR Magazine had organised a Power Talk, to discuss “Modern Power Substations” where experts across the power infrastructure and substation managers discussed the present grid infrastructure, highlighting the opportunities and challenges in adoption of latest technologies for modern substation, stressing upon the need to secure them for better performance.
